Vaak portretteert Close ook andere kunstenaars,<br \/>\nbijvoorbeeld de minimal music componist\/musicus Philip Glass. Mogelijk volgt hieruit zijn fascinatie voor het portret. Elk vakje van een raster krijgt<br \/>\ndan een eigen kleur of kleurtoon. Van dichtbij bekeken vallen die rasters<br \/>\nerg op en is het werk abstract. In de documentaire<br \/>\n\u201cViews on Vermeer\u201d van Hans Pool en Koos de Wilt beweert hij bv. dat hij bijna<br \/>\nalle schilderijen kan \u201clezen\u201d hoe ze opgebouwd en geschilderd zijn, behalve<br \/>\nbij Vermeer.
